Perform server-side tracing

Server-side tracing is captured within the trace log on the SharePoint Server. Used in conjunction with client-side tracing, it is possible to watch a particular activity from both the server and the client’s point of view.

Continuing with the previous example, BDC Services logging is already enabled on the SharePoint server. To configure its logging level, do the following:

1. Open Central Administration and select Monitoring.

2. In the Reporting section, select Configure Diagnostic Logging.

3. Expand the Business Connectivity Services entry and ensure that Business Data is set to at least the Medium trace level.

4. Analyze the ULS log entries, looking for information about two categories:

A. BDC_Shared_Services

B. SS_Shared_Service
